Let's be honest: not everyone wants a dog that needs a 5-mile hike at 6 AM. 'Low maintenance' doesn't mean 'no maintenance'—all dogs need love, vet care, and walks—but these breeds are happy with a shorter stroll and a long nap.
1. The Greyhound
Surprised? Despite being the fastest dogs on earth, Greyhounds are widely known as '45-mph couch potatoes.' They are sprinters, not marathon runners. A quick zoom around the yard or a 20-minute walk is usually enough to tucker them out for the rest of the day. Their short coats also make grooming a breeze.
2. The Basset Hound

With their short legs and heavy bones, Basset Hounds are built for endurance sniffing, not speed. They are generally very laid-back indoors. Be warned, though: 'low physical maintenance' comes with a trade-off—they can be stubborn to train and love to howl.
3. The Pug
Pugs were bred for one specific job: to be companions to Chinese emperors. They excel at sitting on laps. They don't need much space and aren't suited for strenuous exercise due to their flat faces. A Pug is happiest just being near you.
4. The Whippet
Think of the Whippet as a smaller, more portable Greyhound. They are quiet indoors (rarely barking) and have virtually zero 'doggy odor.' They love a good sprint, but as soon as they are inside, they turn into heat-seeking missiles looking for the softest blanket.
5. The French Bulldog
The ultimate apartment dog. Frenchies require minimal grooming and minimal exercise. They are sturdy enough to play but calm enough to relax while you work. Just keep in mind that while their *activity* maintenance is low, their *health* maintenance (due to breathing issues) can be higher.
